It is my pleasure to welcome you to the International School of Deposit Insurance Studies (ISDIS), a global hub on financial safety-net with the vision “to be a leading global learning and development organization, providing capacity building, research, and advisory services on financial services industry (fsi), particularly, financial safety-net, by 2030” and mission of“ to deploy the best mix of technology, human and other resources to deliver quality training, research, and advisory services to a wide spectrum of target customers globally”. Whereas the history of the other components of the financial safety-net is as old as banking itself that started several centuries ago, deposit protection was introduced formally as a nationwide scheme a century ago. Since i the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) started operation in 2002 with a vision of ‘‘Sharing Deposit Insurance Expertise with the world” the practice of DIS has been evolving with greater momentum globally. This process is being accentuated by the banking industry’s dynamic nature, especially the embrace of technologies to drive new, complex, and sophisticated financial products. Yet, the sophistication and complexity associated with emerging global financial landscape trigger and exacerbate stability concerns and challenges that require organizations to deploy innovative workforce solutions. This makes the need for specialized capacity development institutions such as ISDIS imperative.
