DR. FRIDAY KANU OHUCHE 

Dr Friday Kanu Ohuche is a development economist, specialising in Institutions and Macroeconomics of growth. He is also a public policy and economic governance professional with over 25 years of extensive experience in diverse areas of economic governance, policy and management, development evaluation, financial management, public policy Reforms and strategy development. Dr. Ohuche’s experience covers the academia (University lecturer), international development consulting, Public Financial Management (PFM), Small and Medium Scale Business Research and Consulting ( MSMEs), over 15 years’ experience in Central Banking and private sector business leadership. Dr Ohuche served at the Central Bank of Nigeria as a Deputy Director, Governor’s Office, and a Special Assistant to Deputy Governors of two Directorates of the Central Bank, Economic Policy (EP) and Financial System Stability (FSS). As a Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Economic policy he was involved in several economic governance assignments anchored by the Central Bank of Nigeria such as economic policy development and economic governance institutional reforms in Nigeria and some African countries. As Special Assistant on Financial System Stability, he participates in policy formulation and review of Other financial Institutions ( OFIS) including Microfinance Banks (MFBs), Primary Mortgage Institutions ( PMIs) and Primary Finance Institutions ( PFIs) in Nigeria. 

Dr, Ohuche was a lecturer in the department of economics, Ebonyi State University between 1996 and 2003, where he taught and supervised undergraduate and graduate students. He worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as technical Assistant to the Resident Representative and Country Economist in the Nigerian Office. In this position, he actively participated in IMF Article 4 Consultation visits where economic policy and governance of member countries are reviewed and Country Reports issued. While in IMF he also participated in the preparation of the background Policy papers and governance structures of the Nigerian Sovereign /Wealth Fund (SWF), the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), Reform of the Nigerian Tax Policy (NTP), the Treasury Single Account (TSA), and Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON). Dr. Ohuche has provided consultancy services to international development agencies such as World Bank, EU, JICA, USAID, IMF, IFAD, DFID, DAI, UNDP, ADB, AU, APRM, SADC and COMESA. He has consulted on a wide range of national and sub-national issues especially Economic Policy and Governance Reforms. Other areas are Capacity Building on Public Financial Management, Procurement processes, financial reporting, and public sector Reforms, development of Small and Medium Scale businesses and Development planning etc. He participated in the development of National Economic Empowerment and Developments Strategy (NEEDS 1 and NEEDS II), and currently serves in the long term development planning for Nigeria known as “’Nigeria Agenda 2050’’. As a pioneer staff of Monetary Policy Department (MPD) of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he worked in Monetary Policy Secretariat, headed Money and Credit unit, Fiscal Unit and FLAAC. He was Special Assistant to Four Economic Advisers to the President of Nigeria (Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Prof Ode Ojowu, Prof. Osita Ogbu and Ambassador A. Wali). Dr. Ohuche recently concluded APRM commissioned flagship study on the development of Index for Drivers of Corporate and Economic Governance Performance for Africa. The study was recently published in APRM website  Dr. Ohuche holds a Ph.D. in development economics (2012) specialising in Institutions and macroeconomics of growth, a Masters (MSc) in international economics (2001) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics (1991), all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is an alumnus of Columbia University Business School, New York, USA where he obtained post graduate certificate in finance and accounting. Also an alumnus of Duke University, North Carolina, USA where he obtained a post graduate certificate in Budgeting and Financial management in the Public Sector from the Duke University Centre for International Development. Dr. Ohuche currently has over 22 peer reviewed articles in national and international journals and books. Dr Ohuche has authored over 30 technical reports, and reviews journal Articles for Central Bank Journal of Applied Statistics ( JAS), Central Bank of ‘Bullion’’, Central Bank of Nigeria Economic and Financial Review ( EFR) and Development Bank of Nigeria Journal of Economics and Sustainable Growth. Dr. Ohuche is married with Children.
