Deposit Protection Operations & Public Trust

Overview

The Deposit Protection Operations & Public Trust Specialization is a practice-oriented programme covering fund administration, premium and payout mechanics, operational risk controls, crisis response protocols and strategic public awareness design. Emphasis is placed on procedural competence and stakeholder coordination to sustain depositor confidence before, during and after stress events. Practical exercises include payout simulations and communication drills grounded in jurisdictional case studies.

The program is delivered via a self-paced online format. Assessment components include case-based assignments, a comparative policy brief and a virtual examination. A minimum score of 50% is required to pass. Retake opportunities are available for a fee of ₦20,000. To qualify, applicants must hold a B.Sc./HND or a diploma supported by a minimum of two years’ work experience, or be an Associate Member of a recognised professional body with at least two years of work experience. The application process is fully online via the UNNBS and ISDIS websites, where prospective students generate an application number, pay the required fee, and subsequently receive a registration number and admission letter upon completion. Examinations are conducted virtually.

The Governing Council may approve waivers on a case-by-case basis for applicants who provide evidence of satisfactory completion of relevant subjects; applicable waiver fees will apply.

Adequate funding is strategic to the effectiveness and efficiency of a deposit insurance system. In this course students will learn about the sources and application of funds, premium pricing and management as well as evaluation of deposit insurance fund sufficiency.

Public awareness of the deposit insurance systems is very critical because awareness of the scheme enhances its effectiveness. This course exposes students to the objectives of public awareness of enhancing effectiveness and reinforcing consumer protection. Communication tools and strategies for ensuring effective public awareness of the deposit insurance program in a jurisdiction as well as the possible challenges.
